John Grant
Managing Director, Data#3 Limited

John will discuss how everyone 'wins' when you create a learning environment that supports the growth and development of people. Through the commitment to the skill and competency development of its people, Data#3 achieves business results by gaining competitive advantage and enhancing the productivity of its workforce.

John Grant is Managing Director of Data#3 Limited, a position he has held since July 2004. Prior to that John had been Chief Executive Officer of Data#3 Limited since July 1996, having previously held positions as Director of Services and Director of Application Solutions.

John’s professional career started after qualifying with honours as a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) in 1971 from the University of Queensland. Thereafter he spent nine years with the Brisbane City Council. In 1980 he joined IBM’s General Systems Division specializing in computing solutions for the local government and construction industries before joining Powell Clark and Associates, a software consulting partnership, in 1982. In 1984, Powell Clark and Associates acquired an office supplies retail and service organization and formed Data#3. John took a position as one of the founding directors, was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 1996 and led the process of preparing and taking the company into the public arena when it listed on the ASX in December 1997. He was appointed Managing Director in 2004.

Megan Tomkies

Megan Tomkies is the Manager of Organizational Development at TelstraClear. Megan manages and oversees TelstraClear's organizational development, particularly in terms of its culture and building people capability.

Since joining TelstraClear, she's collaborated with the business leaders to ensure learning at TelstraClear takes a blended approach across initiatives such as the graduate programme and the leadership programme. e-Learning has played a pivotal part in building capability and she's implemented major skill drives, such as creating an ITIL service management culture.

Megan is a strong advocate of e-learning as part of TelstraClear's employee value proposition. Prior to joining TelstraClear in 2005, Megan worked in HR in New Zealand and Europe.

TelstraClear has now had e-learning as part of its learning and development toolbox for five years. As a business, TelstraClear is continuing to integrate SkillPort as a learning tool for both technical and professional development. The e-learning can occur by courses, SkillBriefs, job aids and Books24x7. To ensure an integrated approach, TelstraClear caters to all learning styles, daily job demands and business critical requirements. They are looking to extend this thinking into more programmes so that e-learning becomes an integral part of the way they learn at TelstraClear.

Tony has been working in the field of learning and development for more than 13 years, covering course design and delivery, systems development and system implementation, project management and computer based training (CBT) implementation.

Tony joined Avis Australia in August 1986 in the National Call Centre, and has held several positions in the organization; with his current role of Learning Support & Communications Manager since 1995. Tony’s current role is diverse, covering systems development, print management, and consulting and internal corporate communications. One of Tony’s main objectives was to source a suitable e-learning platform and deliver it corporate-wide to Australia and New Zealand. His ongoing focus is to continue to promote the e-learning platform and motivate employees to embrace self-managed learning.

A review of SkillSoft’s content development strategy, including our build plan, the SkillSoft Innovation Lab, and a look at the new and exciting learning experiences we are bringing to market this year.

A native of the United States, Kevin Stevens is a graduate of University College Dublin, Ireland. He has over twenty years experience in the learning industry, including roles in book publishing, secondary and university education, corporate training, and e-learning. Since 1995 he has been with the SkillSoft organization in a variety of content development and management roles. He is currently General Manager, Content Planning and QA.

Anna and Peter will discuss the Sensis journey of managing traditional training with e-learning opportunities, and how generic “off the shelf” content can supplement custom built requirements and career development.

Anna joined Sensis in 2005 as National Career Development Manager. Anna is accountable for the ongoing development of career strategy and innovation in the delivery of all career-related programmes and initiatives. She also oversees operational aspects of the SkillSoft platform (Sensis’ corporate university) and its generic courseware offering. Throughout her career, Anna has been heavily involved in human performance improvement through the identification and growth of organizational capabilities, performance management initiatives and employee engagement activities. She is currently completing a Master of Organizational Psychology (MOP) degree from Monash University in addition to her Psychology, Arts and Music degrees. Anna is a provisionally registered psychologist with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board.

Peter has worked in learning and development for approximately 12 years in a variety of roles. Nine years were spent with American Express starting with training delivery, Instructional Designer and as a Development Consultant. The last three years with Sensis have included the role of Courseware Design and Development Manager and most recently e-Learning and Innovation Manager, responsible for developing and implementing training programmes for audiences throughout Australia, Asia and New Zealand; with a focus on electronic content and deployment and integration into blended learning solutions. Peter has an IT certification in Application Development, Training and Workplace Assessment and is about to commence a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership.

Steve Symes
Director of Training, American Express

Steve will provide an insight to the journey that American Express Customer Service International Business unit has embarked on across the Asia Pacific region to drive increased customer satisfaction by enhancing the level of service it provides to its card members. During this short presentation Steve will look at the point of departure and the aspirational point of arrival, some of the steps they have taken along the way and the lessons learnt so far. As part of this insight he will talk us through their approach to ensure that there is a clear link between the learning delivered and required business outcomes.

Steve is the Director of Training for American Express Customer Service International. He is responsible for driving forward their blended learning strategy to help the business achieve its plans in 2007 and beyond. Prior to joining American Express, Steve worked as a Regional Director with SkillSoft EMEA. He then headed up the Solutions Service team at SkillSoft Asia Pacific. During his time with SkillSoft he has worked with companies such as Marconi, Centrica, ABN Amro, HBOS, T Mobile, GSK and many others, helping them define and implement a variety of e-learning Strategies to meet the needs of their employees.
